Ethiopian Road Authority Awards Road Projects Worth 4.8 Billion Birr

Ethiopian Road Authority (ERA) has awarded four road projects worth 4.8 billion Birr to local and foreign companies, Capital reported.

The Authority and contractors signed the contract on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at ERA’s head quarter.

Al Asab General Tranport and Contracting Establishment (AAGTC), has been awarded the first phase of the Arba Rakate- Gelemso-Mechara road located in Western Harage of the Oromia region. The project is expected to becompleted in three years.

The existing road stretching from Arba to Mechara will also be upgraded at a cost of 1.1 billion Birr, Samson Wondimu, Public Relations Head of ERA, stated.

YENCOMAD Construction, a local company, undertakes the Efson-Mehal Meda road construction at a cost of 1.3 billion Birr. The cost will be covered by the public treasury and it will be accomplished within three years.

The Chinese company, Human Hunda Road and Bridge Construction (HHRBC) has been awarded the 75.7 km Sodo-Terecha road project. This project costs 1.3 billion Birr and it’s going to be completed in three years.

China Railway is the third foreign company that will be constructing the 83 km asphalt road that stretches from Felege Selam to Bahir Dar. It costs 1.1 billion birr and expected to be completed in three years.
