Ethiopia: Diageo Inaugurated USD 119 Million Project

Expansion work Diageo carried out on a factory it owns in Ethiopia, Meta Abo Brewery, is inaugurated. The expansion project was carried out at an outlay of USD 119 million.

The expansion has enabled the brewer to boost its annual production capacity to 1.7 million hector liters. It has also given the factory the luxury of producing in a three lane. The first lane has the capacity of producing 40,000 bottles of beer in a single hour. The rest two have production capacity of 33,000 and 36,000 bottles per hour.

The newly inaugurated lane is the third lane with the capacity of producing 36,000 bottles per hour.

Diageo has formed partnership with more than 6,000 local farmers for the supply of barely.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Communication and Information Technology and Coordinator of the Finance and Economic Cluster with a status of Deputy Prime Minister, Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD), said the fact that Diageo created direct chains with local farmers does not only generate income for the farmers. He furthered the partnership will play a crucial role in attaining sustained development and growth.

Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes on his part praised Ethiopia as registering rapid economic growth and noted his firm wants to be part of the transformation.

Diageo is a multination corporation which operates in more than 180 countries with 200 brands.
