Ethiopia: New CEO for ECX

ecxErmias Eshetu has been selected to be the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX).

He is Zemen Bank’s vice president for Marketing and Corporate Service, a founding member and also a board member of the Bank. He was with the bank from the very inception of it and held different positions along the years.

According to The Reporter, Ermias’ appointment came after the board of the ECX headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Tefera Derebew, passed the decision on Thursday, December 11, 2014, to assign Ermias to the position.

Upon ECX’s establishment Eleni Gebremedhin (PhD) became its CEO and she is renowned as the longest serving CEO of the organization. Upon her resignation from her place, Anteneh Getaneh, who was vice president of the Bank of Abyssinia, took over her spot. Nonetheless, he held the position only for year and later resigned due to health complications.

After Anteneh resigned from the CEO position of ECX, Shimelis Habtewold was assigned as the interim CEO of the organization.

Ermias has a wide range of leadership experience on his belt, both locally and abroad. He worked at well known companies such as IBM, Alcatel, Orange and the like. He is well experienced in software engineering and business intelligence areas.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from UMIST, which is an institution found in the United Kingdom, in Computation. He later went to Manchester School of Management and got his masters degree in International Business.
