Ethiopia: Ethio Telecom Earned 5.7 Billion Birr in Three Months

The Ethiopian telecom monopole, Ethio telecom, secured over five Billion Birr in the first quarter of this fiscal year.

Commenting on the development Ethio telecom’s Chief Executive Office, Andualem Admassie, explained to House of People’s Representatives Science, Communications and Technology Standing Committee that Ethio telecom earned 5.7 Billion Birr in a quarter.

He furthered the corporation has met its target of earning 3 Billion Birr.

Its number of customers also hiked to 30 Million as at early October 2014, out of which all 29 Million of them are mobile users.

The CEO added number of data and internet users has exceeded 6,000 Data. This also surpassed the plan the Corporation had.

Users of fixed lines have also reached 802,000.00, Andualem explained

He also pointed out there is frequent disruption of fiber optics and electric power fluctuation as problems and explained to the Committee the Corporation is going to start working with Ethiopian Electric Service and other government offices to solve the problems.
