Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) it plans to complete 43 road projects by the current fiscal year.

According to the Authority’s Communication Director, Samson Wendemu, ERA intends to complete the construction in order to attain what has been outlined on the five years Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).

He furthered the road constructions will cover a total of 2,787.5 Kilometers and that the projects are funded mainly by the Federal Government while loans and donors also cover the rest of the cost.

In relation to local contractors and consultants, their number has been increasing from time to time. According to the Director, out of the 43 road constructions 31 of them are being carried out by local contractors. The rest are being constructed by foreign firms.

The roads that are being constructed are expected to link districts to districts, zones to zones, regions from regions and Ethiopia with its neighboring countries.

For the current fiscal year ERA intends to undertake a total of 294 road projects with a budget of 29.9 Billion Birr.
