Ethiopia: Oilseed Revenue Surpass Coffee’s

Reports of the last four years of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) revealed revenues from oilseed surpassed what coffee managed to bring to Ethiopia. During the 2013/2014 fiscal year, oilseed brought U.S. $ 920 Million which was U.S. $ 201 Million up when compare to revenues from coffee.

When the GTP period started back in 2010/2011, oilseed’s revenue stood at U.S. $ 63.2 Million. But during the GTP period earnings from oilseed grew by 10 fold.

Even if coffee is labeled as the country’s first export item, its revenue has been declining over time. At the beginning of the GTP period, revenue from coffee stood at U.S. $ 842. But it has now failed to U.S. $ 720 Million.
