Ethiopia to Host US-African Energy Ministerial Meeting

aemEthiopia is going to host the African Energy Ministerial (AEM) Meeting, jointly organized by the Government of Ethiopia and the U.S. Government. The event will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 3 - 4, June, 2014.

The meeting will focus on catalyzing sustainable energy growth in Africa. The event is also going to serve as a forum for the declaration of major commitments and announcements that support energy development all over Africa, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Energy.

AEM will feature plenary sessions, panel presentation, break-out discussions and a high-level ministers-only meeting. It is also expected to include a US-Africa Energy Expo Center, where US and African companies will be able to highlight on their business and technology solutions.

According to the Reporter the meeting is also expected to raise the issue of exploring strategies and effective practices across Africa and the United States for accelerating development of clean energy sources and adoption of energy-efficient technologies. The meeting is also expected to include highlight progress on President Obama's Power Africa Initiative.

Minister level attendance both from North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa is expected at the AEM meeting. These ministers are also expected to be accompanied by multilateral development partners, senior US government officials, US and African private sector leaders, regional and sub-regional African energy organizations, academia and civil societies.
