Farmers earned 36M Birr from Sale of Honey

Farmers in Bale Zone of Oromia State earned over 36 million Ethiopian birr from sale of 485,000kg honey during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Ethiopian News Agency reported citing the Zonal Livestock Development and Health Office.

Planning and Evaluation Expert with the Office, Taye Aga told Ethiopian News Agency on Wednesday that over 39,000 farmers are engaged in apiary alongside with crop production.

The revenue earned during the reported period exceeded the amount earned a year earlier by 10 million birr. Taye attributed the success to the close collaboration between the farmers and extension workers. Over one million kilograms of honey is expected to be supplied to the market during the current budget year, he added.
