Ethiopia Ranks 121/125 on Innovation Index

Mauritius leads Africa    

Ethiopia ranked 121st out of 125 countries on the fifth annual Global Innovation Index released by the INSEAD business school. European countries dominated the top 11 economies on the list, and more than half of them are in the northern regions of the continent.

Among the criteria for ranking countries on the Global Innovation Index were business sophistication, infrastructure human capital and research, as well as scientific and creative products generated by each country. 

According to the index, Switzerland leads the world in innovation. And Europe ranked top of all the continents according to a report by the INSEAD business school.

The last four countries following Ethiopia on the index are Algeria, Sudan, Yemen and Niger. Mauritius, the most innovative African country ranked 53 out of the 125 countries surveyed.

The top ten countries on the global innovation index are Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Hong Kong, Finland, Denmark, U.S.A., Canada, Netherlands and United Kingdom. While Iceland, Germany, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, South Korea, Luxembourg, Norway, Austria and Japan ranked from 11th to 20th on the index.
