African Bank Loans $234.5 Million for Ethiopian Roads

The African Development Bank gave a 234.5 million us dollar loan for the construction of roads in Ethiopia, linking the country to South Sudan and Kenya. The Bank made the loan to encourage trade relationships between Ethiopia and its neighbors.

The loan agreement was signed by Ahmed Shide, State Minister with the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development and Lamin G. Barrow the Resident Representative of the the African Development Bank.

The two roads to be financed by the African Bank are the Bedele-Metu road and the upgrade and construction on the Hawassa-Ageremariam road.

 

Road Leading to Potash Deposits In Ethiopia 37% Complete

The Abala Shaigube asphalt concrete road project, (63 km) expected to make the potash deposits in the Afar region of Ethiopia accessible, is 37% complete according Shabbir Hussain, Head of the Contract Administration Division at Sur Construction.

The project started in 2010 is expected to be completed in the beginning of the next year at a cost of 707 million birr.

The road is being constructed by Sur Construction Share Company with consulting work being done by Net Consulting Engineers Private Limited Company.

 

Chinese Contractors Sign for Road Projects in Ethiopia

China Contractors, China Railway Number Three Engineering Group and CGC Overseas Construction have signed a 1.9 billion birr agreement to construct to roads in Ethiopia.

China Railway Number Three Engineering Group will build the 101 kilometer Abadi-Hawzen-Freweyni highway to connect western and eastern Tigray. The construction project to be completed at government expense is expected to be completed in three years according to a statement released by the Ethiopian Roads Authority.

The consulting work for this project will be handled by the Net Consulting Engineers and Architects said the statement.

First Expressway in Ethiopia 28% Completed

The Expressway being constructed between Addis Ababa and Adama is 28% completed according to the Roads Authority in Ethiopia.

The construction of the super highway intended to allow eight lanes in two directions is progressing on schedule said Samson Wondimu Director of the Communication Directorate of the Ethiopian Roads Authority

The project is expected to be finalized in April of 2014 he noted.

 

Ethiopia Signs Regional Deal for Infrastructure Development

Ethiopia, Djibouti and South Sudan reached an agreement to partner in infrastructure development. The tripartite agreement includes the construction of telecom, railway, oil pipeline networks as well as duty free zones linking the regional economy.

The agreement was signed by Sufian Ahmed, Ethiopian Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh, Djiboutian Minister of Economy and Finance and Kosti Manibe Ngai, South Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning at the Sheraton Hotel in the Ethiopian capital.
