ABH Services PLC is a health consultancy firm registered in Ethiopia in 2007. The company was founded by health professionals who have acquired extensive technical and programmatic experience in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health and health related programs and projects at facility and community level while working with the government and international and national non-governmental organizations.

As such, ABH strives to establish a center of excellence that integrates research (including surveys, surveillance, monitoring and evaluation) and capacity building (primarily focusing on short-term and long-term in-service training tailored to the needs of clients). To fully shoulder this vision, it has established strong partnerships with relevant institutions both locally and abroad.
ABH has a dedicated staff and panel of experts in various disciplines who are engaged in various capacity building, needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation activities.

While the permanent staff serve as the operational arm of the organization, its panel of experts in education, biostatics, public health, epidemiology, nutrition, project development, monitoring and evaluation offers it a unique pool of multidisciplinary team to respond to the needs of its current and potential stakeholders.
Since its establishment in Ethiopia in 2007 primarily as a research institution, ABH has expanded its scope of work to include development and organization of tailor-made and need-based training programs.
ABH has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jimma University to collaborate in service provision in the area of trainings and researches.

ABH provides its services to governmental, local and international non-governmental organizations engaged in the support and implementation of facility as well as community level health and health related programs in Ethiopia.
Through its collaboration with Jimma University, ABH serves individuals and organizations through its graduate programs. ABH has plans to expand its services to other African countries in the near future.

Aims

ABH aims at delivering high quality, client centered and efficient technical and logistics services and contribute towards to the effort in solving major public health and social problems of Africa in general and Ethiopia in particular.

To that end, ABH works closely with Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, and universities, national and international governmental and nongovernmental organizations that partner with country’s governments and implement health and health related projects and programs.

Services We Offer

ABH’s services include conducting researches and implementing programs, training and training material preparation in English and local languages and event organization. Below is described the services and experiences of ABH in the aforementioned service areas and details are shown in a summary table pertaining for each of the service areas.

Research

ABH Services PLC, based on the client’s needs or level of involvement, undertakes the full or partial responsibility of designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting of operational studies in health and social science fields at facility and community level.

These include: baseline and end-line surveys, rapid assessments, formative researches investigational and health system researches. ABH has conducted several studies for national and international organizations.

Project/Program Implementation

ABH Services Plc has demonstrated and sound technical, administrative, financial and leadership capacity to engage in implementation of programs at health facility and community level. ABH implements programs fully or partially in partnership with prime or secondary grant and contract recipients.

ABH’s core staffs have hand-on experience in assessment, planning and implementation of programs including, mentoring of health workers and conducting supportive supervision at site level and coordinating overall programs at woreda, zonal, regional and national level.

Training and Training Material Development

ABH organizes and provides short and long term in-service and pre-service trainings (both basic and graduate level) in health and social sciences using nationally approved training packages and curricula in collaboration with national and international training institutions.

ABH has full capacity and rich experience in carrying out multisite parallel trainings and cascading of regional trainings throughout Ethiopia.
ABH has the capacity to mobilize resourceful in-house and external trainers to implement large scale trainings in a rapid and efficient manner meeting tight deadlines.

ABH has signed an agreement with Jimma University to facilitate and coordinate graduate level trainings in health and social sciences in Addis Ababa starting from January 1, 2013.

Experiences in Trainings

Provision of in-service trainings is one of the service areas of ABH Services PLC. ABH has done several cascade trainings beginning from preparation of training materials to full implementation of national level Training of Master Trainers (TMT), Training of Trainers (ToT) and facilitation, coordination and supervision of lower level trainings.
At present, (February 2015) through a contract agreement with WFP Ethiopia and DRFMSS, ABH is implementing the rollout of woreda level Food Management Improvement Project Training.

The task included preparing participants and facilitators manuals, training aids, conducting national level TOT, recruitment and training of mentors, organization of harmonization and familiarization workshops and training of 2000 woreda and zonal level staffs engaged in emergency food distribution.

ABH was responsible for the rollout of Community Based Nutrition (CBN), Community Health Day (CHD) and Out Patient Therapeutic Feeding (OTP) Training in 20 woredas of Oromia Region in 2011, for a program implemented by the Federal Ministry of Health, Oromia Regional Health Bureaus, UNICEF, and World Bank.

The roll out plan was aimed at training of Master Trainers’ at regional level whose task was conducting Wereda level ToT. ABH was able to conduct two rounds of Master Trainers training of 11 days each for 40 Master Trainers and 38 woreda level ToTs for 1132 HEWs and Health Workers.

The responsibility of the HEWs and HWs was to train all voluntary community health workers in the all the kebeles in the 20 new CBN woreda of the Oromia Region. In this cascade training, in addition to the conduct of the trainings, ABH was involved in the refining of training manuals, preparation of various tools used for monitoring and evaluation of trainings at regional and woreda level, supervision check list, woreda level ToT rollout and supervision plans.

This assignment was completed with 100% achievement.

Through a contract entered with the Federal Ministry of Health and IntraHealth, ABH has accomplished the preparation of “comprehensive national training material on PMTCT” consisting of Reference manual, Trainer’s manual and Trainees handout in addition to booklets, monitoring and evaluation tools used to support the PMTCT Training.

Two national level ToTs were conducted to familiarize national level trainers to the new comprehensive training material before rollout to all regions.

ABH has also successfully completed preparation of Case Management Curriculum and New Modules on Additional Topics and translation of prepared materials in to Amharic.

In a contract agreement with UASID|AIDSTAR-One Ethiopia ABH has trained 2454 health workers in Oromia region on Injection safety and health facility waste management. This was a facility based training where participants were provided the training in their work place without significant impairment of their daily service.

ABH has organized and conducted ToT on Clinical Training skills of Syndromic management of STI, Palliative Care for PLHIV and Clinical Nutrition Care for PLHIV for project staffs, national and regional trainers for regions supported by JHU TSEHAI Project.

Under sub contractual agreement from AED/FANTA-2 Project ABH has provided technical and logistic support for four rounds of TOT and training of over 1000 ART providers in clinical nutrition care for children and adults living with HIV in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Health, USAID, AED/FANTA-2 and WHO-Ethiopia Country Office in Bahir Dar and Adama.
The technical and logistic support service requires identification of high calibre trainers that train the very experienced service providers, program advisors and instructors drawn from FMOH, RHB, University Hospitals and USG Partner organizations, arrangement of training venue, payments, meals and refreshment and organizing practicum sites.

Organization of Events

ABH Services Plc engages in providing technical and logistical assistance in organizing regional and national review workshops, conferences, seminars, consultative meetings and anniversaries.
Such services include: concept development and pre event planning; selection and coordination of venues; budget development and analysis; contract and vendor negotiations; comprehensive registration and housing services; travel planning and transportation; meeting correspondence; creation and distribution of invitations; complete onsite management and staffing; payment and procurement services.
ABH has very rich experience in organization of events such as trainings, workshops and consultative meetings here in Addis Ababa and in the regions with participants ranging up to 250.

Training Material Development

ABH Services Plc undertakes tasks in preparing guidelines, training packages and provider and client support tools and materials in health and health related fields. ABH has qualified full time and part time professionals to lead the designing and preparation of short term courses in health and health related fields. It also has heavy duty printers and duplicators to assist the printing of such documents.

Equipment/Facilities/Office

ABH Services Plc’s headquarter office is located on Bole road, in front of the Millennium Hall in Bole Sub City, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The head office is housed in a Ground+3 building which is conveniently located in the business district of the city, Bole, where many stakeholders and partners are also located. The building houses state of the art conference halls, offices, resource centre (library) and a computer lab.

It has 3 training and conference rooms with a total capacity of up to 200 individuals. In addition there are enough offices with adequate spaces that can be used to house additional consultants and staff.
Moreover, ABH is in the process of establishing regional offices in Bahir Dar, Hawassa, and Adama (Central) to provide closer technical and administrative support to projects and programs.

The regional offices will be led by Regional Directors who will liaise with respective local authorities and oversee the implementation of projects from a closer distance. Its offices will be equipped with modern communication systems and equipment. In addition to its fully equipped auditorium at the head office, ABH has ample portable equipment listed below that enables it to run off-site trainings.
