Berber Cement Co. Ltd is a cement manufacturer in Sudan wishing to supply cement to Ethiopia. Sudan has witnessed a huge development when it joined a group of oil producing countries. This has prompted the production of cement as it is viewed a strategic goal of the state.
The production of cement is undertaken by both the private sector and foreign investors to bridge the growing gap between the local production and consumption and achieve good earnings. The high cost of transportation due to long distance between the port and areas of high consumption represents an important factor in determining the local prices of Cement, this has led to establishment of cement industry closer to areas of consumption as it is the case with Berber Cement Co. which has direct impact on reduction of prices.
The estimated investment cost of the company has reached 210 million US dollars.
It is Located in the River Nile State, about 8 Km South East of Berber town, which is about 350Km North of Khartoum, Sudan. The company location site was is about 7Km from the eastern bank of the River Nile, about 6Km approximately from the railway line and the National paved Highway that links Atbara town to Berber. The Tifila Quarry is located along the company area towards the east while marble Quarry is about 15Km west of the Nile and the stone crusher is on the western bank of the Nile and the crushed stones aretransported by the River Nile.
The Production Capacity and other Technical aspect
The company is designed to produce 5000 tons of cement per day. The design of the company's equipment has taken into account the best European technology coupled with the Chinese expertise.
Past, Present and Future
By the end of installation phase and the start of operation phase is to be followed by production phase and the delivery of the product to the Sudanese markets by May 2010. This process will be assisted by highly technical;Sudanese administrative cadres. The contribution of the Berber Cement Co. to Sudanese economy has become a reality.
