Ethiopia Earned USD 58 Million from Skin and Hides Products

Ethiopia is harnessing its capacity to grow competitive in the international skin and hides market by utilizing its potentials, the Ministry of Industry said. The country has earned USD 58 million in this fiscal year so far from export of hides and skin products.

The Ethiopian leather industry is fast growing in the past few years. By the year 2010/11 skin and hides grew nearly by two fold earning 104.3 million dollar.The year 2011/12 has shown a 7.4 per cent increase, according to figures from the ministry. The report says the increase is due to the role of private investors and government in the sector.

New Wing and the Chinese Wujiwan are among international companies who have utilized investment opportunities in the sector.
