Lamu-Ethiopia Project Being Mapped

Surveyors have commenced mapping Port Lamu to Ethiopia transport project. The Port Lamu-South Sudan-Ethiopia transport corridor is expected to cost 1.5 trillion US dollars.

The transport project aims to link Northern Kenya with the coast as well as with South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The project also includes a 1,720 kilometer standard gauge railway line between Lamu and Juba, a pipeline and an oil refinery as well as other developments.

The transport project was launched by the leaders of Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan two weeks ago.

The project is expected to open commercial links with Ethiopia increasing the trade volume between the two countries said Dr. Cyrus Njiru, Permanent Secretary for the Kenyan Transport Ministry.
