Ethiopia Signs Air Services Agreement with Singapore

Ethiopia signed an agreement to cooperate in air services with Singapore last week according to the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority.

The Air Services Agreement will enable airlines from both countries to operate specified numbers of cargo and passenger flights between Ethiopia and Singapore as well as to other countries.

The agreement was signed by Getachew Mengeste, Ethiopian State Minister for Transport and Josephine Teo, State Minister for Finance and Transport, Singapore.

The cooperation between the two countries in the air transport sector should grow said Getachew at the signing.

Carriers from both Ethiopia and Singapore will be able quickly react to new market opportunities to launch cargo and passenger services because of this agreement which will ensure the development of future links between the two nations according to Ms Teo.

Ethiopian Airlines and Singapore Airlines as members of the Star Alliance have previously signed a code-share agreement.

It is to be remembered that the Civil Aviation Authority of Ethiopia has reached bilateral agreements with Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland in just the last two quarters of the current financial year.

The authority has also revised previous arrangements with Israel and Malawi according to Ahmed Hassen, Head of Promotions and Public Relations with the Civil Aviations Authority.

The bilateral agreements are part of efforts exerted by the authority to expand air transport service said Ahmed.

Understanding to facilitate further arrangements has been reached with Cameroon, Iceland, India, Jamaica, Poland and Slovenia towards this end he noted.
