Ethiopia Joins Competition for CIO 100 Awards

The awards will honour 100 organisations in east Africa.

Ethiopia has joined the yearly CIO 100 awards as one of the five participating countrie sin east Africa.

The number of companies to be surveyed for the competition this year has increased to more than 500 up from 350 in last year.

Last year's 350 participants were drawn from Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

The rise in the number of participants is attributed to the introduction of new awards which include Green Edge, Leadership, Security and CIO of the Year Award, which recognise the best CEO in embracing information technology.

More than 600 participants from all over east and central Africa are expected to contend for the awards. The ceremony will be concluded with the Awards gala which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from the 23rd -25th November to honour 100 organisations within the region.

The CIO 100 Awards were introduced in 2010 for the purpose of celebrating organisations that have used IT in innovative ways to deliver business value.

According to Mr Harry Hare, director of CIO, the survey is based on how the companies have been creating competitive advantage, optimising business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.

The team of judges that will review the applications and make initial recommendations about each entrant are drawn from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
