National Bank of Ethiopia Rejects Enat Bank Presidential Nominee

The National Bank of Ethiopia rejected Birtukan G. Egzi, nominated as President of Enat Bank. Regulators at the central bank declined to approve the presidential nominee presented by the bank because she lacks experience in credit management.

Her previous experience in deposit mobilization is not enough for the central bank to approve her as president of the new bank because bank presidents need a broader understanding of the industry and experience in various services offered according to a senior official with the NBE.

It was a surprise that her nomination to president was rejected on the basis of her lack of experience in credit mobilization although she fulfills all other requirements said Birtukan.

The central bank’s decision was also a surprise to the board of director of Enat Bank who had banked on the experience and creditability of their candidate according to Meaza Ashenafi, one of the directors of the new bank.

The board of directors of Enat bank has to search for a new female candidate qualified to fill the most senior position in the bank dedicated to offering opportunities for women.

It is to be remembered that the central bank approved all ten nominees for the Enat Bank board of directors last month.
