Oil Exploration Project Announces Encouraging Data in Ethiopia

BGP Geo Services plc announced collecting encouraging data from oil exploration in the South Omo Valley in Ethiopia. BGP delivered a significant seismic data report which indicated the presence of some oil according to sources at the Ministry of Mines.

The company will continue collecting seismic data over the next couple of months and drill areas for exploration wells will be determined on the interpretation of the data collected.

No exploration wells have been drilled so far in South Omo.

BGP was hired by British company, Tullow Oil to carry out a seismic survey of the exploration area near to the Ethio-Kenyan border. The Chinese company has been engaged in similar projects in various countries including Oman, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

BGP is a well respected geophysical service company offering a range of services, technology and equipment to the international oil and gas industry.

BGP is engaged in acquiring seismic data, interpretation, processing, reservoir geophysics, micro-seismic, borehole seismic, equipment manufacturing and software research and development GME and multi-client surveys according to the company website.  

Tullow, in partnership with Canadian company Africa Oil, has been commendable in its project according to Dr. Ketsela Tadesse Mining Licensing and Administration Core Process Owner with the MoM.

It is to be remembered that Africa Oil sold a 50% stake in its exploration project in the South Omo Valley in 2010.
