Car Assembly Plant Inaugurated in Ethiopia

Belayab Enterprise plc inaugurated a new car assembly plant in Ethiopia in the presence of several dignitaries and notable guests.

The factory is located on 30,000m2 and has the potential capacity to assemble 18 cars a day in three work shifts. It is expected to create employment opportunities for 200 people and will create more jobs when it enters a full production stage.

The automobiles to be assembled at the plant will be station wagons and single and double cabin pickup produced by Zhougzhou Nissan Automobile and Sedan Automobiles under FEW which is said to have a paid capital of over 100 million birr.

Belayab Enterprise is striving to assemble large and medium sized buses, motor bikes, and small tractors to assist in the development efforts of the country said Aschalew Belay, Owner of the enterprise. The factory has imported state of the art machinery towards achieving its goal and is seeking support from the government to develop the car assembly sector in the country he noted.

The plant is proof of the close relationship between Ethiopia and China towards achieving the common goals of both nations said Xie Xiao Yan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Peoples' Republic of China to Ethiopia and representative to the African Union.

The Ethiopian government pledges to support the factory according to Getachew Mengiste, State Minister for Transport.
