Ethiopian Bank to Open Branch in Juba

Ethiopia’s United Bank is set to open its first branch in the capital city of Southern Sudan, Juba. The bank will be the first Ethiopian private bank to enter the newest country in Africa.

A branch in the new oil rich nation is expected to be significantly lucrative for the bank according to officials.

United is also planning to open branches in other African countries in its bid to become a competitive financial institute on the continent said Berhanu Getaneh, President of the Bank.

It is to be remembered that United Bank, Ethiopia awarded the contract to upgrade its data center, to Seven Seas Technologies Group, a Kenyan Technology firm.

The contract estimated to be worth nine million birr stipulates that the work will be accomplished in four months.

The data center will allow space for the effective functioning of the core banking system that has been implemented by United Bank according to officials.

The contract signed between Seven Seas and the bank will allow the technology firm to demonstrate the quality of its work in Ethiopia and enable the bank to have a high tech data center to enhance the automation of the bank said Mohammed Ahmed, Chief Commercial Officer of Seven Seas.
